Quotes are a great way to spark some inspiration! I love how they can be shared and inspire each person who hears it. I’ve heard some of these quotes from people who made a difference in my life and I like the idea that they could also impact someone who hears them from me. Maybe we will make this an ongoing post – what do you think?? Here are two great ones to share with you:
“The warrior and the artist live by the same code of necessity, which dictates that the battle must be fought anew every day” Steven Pressfield, The War of Art
I love this one because I really believe in the idea and the concept of being an artist and what that means. How you think or feel as an artist and how you navigate life. I really respect the idea that the warrior and the artist have something in common. “The battle must be fought anew everyday” is another way of saying resilience. As an artist you have to be resilient and you have to be ready to move forward everyday anew. You have to challenge yourself, your passion and pick yourself up. Similar to an ancient warrior’s mentality, whether today was good or bad on the field, tomorrow is a new day and you have to start over. This is a great mindset to have as a musician and I like to remind myself of that with this quote!
The second one is short but meaningful and it is “blossom where you are planted”. I first heard of this quote from my great percussionist friend Fernando Meza and he first heard it from one of his teachers! I love the way that these quotes are passed on and I certainly have taken this one to heart. We use it in the percussion studio all the time! The idea behind this quote is that no matter where you are, you have to do your best work, grow and become. Whether you’re in a place that lifts you up and excites you, or you are in the worst place, where you feel uninspired, just blossom where you are planted. Wherever you are, make the most of it and bend it to your will, to your desires and make things go your way!
I keep these quotes close to my heart and try to remind myself of them often when I need inspiration or motivation! I would love to write about more quotes in the future so let me know about your favorite ones!!
